How to apply for reasonable adjustments

If a student requires reasonable adjustments (RA) for their Open Awards exam, email us and let us know that a student requires RA. We will email the student a form which they must fill in with the following information; what reasonable adjustments they require, why they need it and medical evidence supporting their RA claim. We cannot book the students exam until the RA application has been approved, so the claim must be made at least 25 days before the desired exam date.

Below are some common reasonable adjustments that Open Awards can allow for:

  • 25% additional time
  • Supervised rest breaks
  • Assessment material in enlarged format
  • Assessment material on coloured paper
  • Use of dictionaries/bilingual-translation dictionaries
  • Use of a reader
  • Use of a scribe
  • Use of a prompter

If the learner requires a reader or scribe these will need to be supplied by members of the PFS team unless they have a documented need for it to be somebody familiar to them.

Please note that this is the procedure for Open Awards exams, if the learner is sitting with City and Guilds then the RA application is done differently so please get in touch with us at providers@passfunctionalskills.co.uk.
